Cumbres de Puriscal Gold
These cigars I’ve been smoking on and off since I got them in
November taking notes and refining them with each one I smoked.
The Cumbres de Puriscals are the premium line of cigars from
Tabacos de la Cordillera coming in Emerald, Gold and Silver. The
Gold is the sampler I ordered is a Mild-to-Medium Bodied cigar
which according to the site has Nutty and Earthy flavor profile.
All the tobacco comes from Pre-Embargo Cuban seeds grown in
Costa Rica and suppose to be as close to the flavor profile of
the 1960’s Cubans as you can get.
I’ve smoked several these cigars varying in sizes and all have a
dark natural/maduro wrapper. Each one had a nice draw an burned
well. A couple seemed a bit light, but it didn’t seem to impact
the burn, flavor or draw. These cigars are a bit milder that
what I usually smoke but I found myself reaching for them during
the early afternoon or morning when I prefer a milder cigar.
I can’t verify the claim that these taste exactly like Cuban
cigars or the Pre-Castro Era. I have not yet got the Time
Machine working and being born in the late 70’s I missed the
glory days of Pre-Castro Cuba (and thankfully most of the Carter
Administration). These cigars do have a very impressive
complexity about them, that even a few months rest really helped
bring out more. The cigar has earthy walnut like flavor with
hints of coffee. It also has a subtle smooth creaminess to the
smoke that has a hint of tangy sweetness in the nice clouds of
smoke.
I’ve really come to enjoy some milder cigars and this is one of
them that I enjoy. The nutty flavor really goes well with a cup
of coffee when I get the moment to actually enjoy a slow-paced
Saturday morning. Rating 9 out of 10. |
